Neurologist awarded for career achievements

A clinical neurologist and researcher from Melbourne has been awarded a 2010 NHMRC Achievement Award this week in recognition of his involvement in the discovery of epilepsy genes. Professor Sam Berkovic from the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne, Austin Health received the award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in health and medical research. Together with molecular genetic collaborators in Adelaide and Germany Professor Berkovic discovered the first gene for epilepsy and has subsequently been involved in the discovery of many of the known epilepsy genes....
